From conventional badges to hand-made polymer clay brooches (made earlier this year).
I really love texture and things of a tactile nature. I found using oven-bake clay (polymer) the simplest way to create light-weight, durable, textured pieces.
These two have been created by pressing japanese maple branches (black one) and a textured button (pearl one) into the clay before baking.
The initial idea was for a pair of brooches that were quite different but still worked together. I also explored contrast through the use of the matte black clay with the metallic pearl clay. From which I learnt a valuable lesson- "keep the sparkly clay separate!"
